Typically, the average adult should visit his or her doctor once every two years. If you’re over 65, currently wear glasses or contacts, or are at risk for eye disease, we recommend you come in for an eye exam at least every year. It’s best to talk with your eye doctor directly to determine what’s right for you.
Your child should start seeing the eye doctor at 6 months old, then again at age 3, and before kindergarten for his or her third appointment. Once your children are in school, they should have regular eye exams every two years through age 18.
